This designation is due to the rich diversity of species and habitat and the multiple environmental threats such as harmful water projects, abusive recreational activities, biological invasions, habitat loss, and unsustainable natural resource harvests.
Preservation of the wonderful diverse habitats of this place will not be easy for, as John Muir has said,
When one tugs at a single thing in nature,
he finds it attached to the rest of the world.
